Delta Shuttle (Delta Air Lines) Delta Shuttle MD 88 N909DE (00)(Apr) DCA (BD)(LR) 100777

Comments:  Delta Air Lines acquired the Pan Am Shuttle (started in 1987) in September 1991, renaming it the Delta Shuttle with Boeing 727-200s. In 2000, Delta began replacing its fleet of Boeing 727-200s with newer 737-800s. However this was short-lived, as Delta shifted to 737-300s. This was a temporary move as the 737-300s were being eliminated from the fleet and were replaced with McDonnell Douglas MD-88s on November 1, 2005. The Delta Shuttle was the last of the shuttle operations to guarantee a seat to passengers. If a plane was oversold, a second plane would be rolled out to form an "extra section" to fly the overflow on time. This practice ended in 2005.
